Welcome to darkpaw Funny search results on The Metro Whilst searching on the Metro's website for the Muslim dog story, I entered the test "Muslim dogs" into the search box. The top three sponsored links are:1. Muzzle Dog 2. Dog Muzzle 3. Great Value Dog Muzzles. Now, I'm not sure if there's some sort of algorithm that's doing a phonetic replacement of the search terms, but to replace Muslims with Muzzles is just very very funny. Do we have a new nickname for Muslims? I mean, it's only fair to give them a name since they call us non-believers infidels, or kuffars. Expelled Exposed! The National Center for Science Education (USA) has put their Expelled Exposed website online. This is a response to the new Creationist propaganda movie "Expelled".
Please go and visit the site, and discover why evolution is true and why intelligent design is nothing more than a smokescreen for religious fundamentalism.
Get stuff for free!![]() I started a new website back in August 2007. It's called NeedStuff and you can get to it here.
The idea is very simple: You have stuff cluttering up your house and you want to get rid of it. What do you do? Throw it in landfill? Sell it for a few pence on eBay? No. What you do is you list it on NeedStuff and advertise it to thousands of people for FREE! Yes, FREE! Absolutely FREE! No listing fees, no final value fees, no annoying postage charges to figure out. No money changes hands at all. Why did I create NeedStuff? Because I had stuff I no longer needed and didn't want to waste my time and money listing it on eBay. It's much easier to give things away to people in your local area who can come and collect it. So, go on then... Visit NeedStuff and start clearing out the unwanted clutter in your house today! Amazon.com launches DRM-free music store From AppleInsider:Posing one of the more serious challenges to Apple's continued success with iTunes, Amazon's MP3 store has opened its doors and claims more unprotected tracks with lower prices. Considered a public beta, Amazon MP3 marks a departure from both Apple's store and Amazon's own Unbox video service in only selling songs that are available in the unguarded MP3 format -- allowing virtually every music phone or portable media player to support its content without limits to CD burning or file copying. While the concept of an MP3-only download store is far from new, the online retailer was keen to stress that its service was designed to lure users accustomed to the ease of use of stores built into music software, particularly iTunes. A custom program known as the MP3 Downloader runs in the background for both Mac and Windows users and seamlessly transfers songs bought from Amazon MP3 into either iTunes or Windows Media Player if they are present on the system, the company said. But the real attractions may be the price and the catalog. Although every song is encoded at higher quality as an MP3 at 256 kilobits per second -- as high as Amazon's rival Wal-Mart and slightly behind the 256Kbps AAC files of iTunes Plus -- songs are no more expensive than at most stores, selling for 99 cents each. More than half of the music in the collection sells for 89 cents per song, according to Amazon. In contrast, an iTunes Plus song costs $1.29 when bought outside of an album, or more than 40 percent higher. --- It had to happen sometime, but it's from a major, major online retailer, which means lots of people will start to use it. Yes, it's a challenge to Apple and iTunes, but it's something they will surely rise to IF only the major labels would sort out the pricing and get rid of DRM forever. If more and more stores appear (apart from saturating the market, like coffee shops do) this might spell the end of DRM-laden music. We can only hope. Microsoft mulls stake in Facebook From BBC News:Microsoft is reported to be in talks to buy a stake in Facebook that could value the social networking website at as much as $10bn (£5bn). The talks could lead to a showdown with Microsoft's rival, Google, which is also keen to invest in Facebook, the Wall Street Journal says. The newspaper says Microsoft wants to buy up to 5% of Facebook, for a price between $300m and $500m. Microsoft and Google both declined to comment on the report. Facebook already has a relationship with Microsoft, which is the exclusive provider of banner advertising and sponsored links on the site. --- Well, there goes the neighbourhood. I'll delete my account if Microsoft or Google buy into Facebook. I have no interest in big business buying into social networking sites. They're not there to make rich people even richer. Recycle your unwanted stuff!!! This is a shameless plug for my new website. Apologies... It's called NeedStuff and it's available here: www.needstuff.co.uk.
It's all about recycling the stuff you don't need by giving it away to others, for *FREE*. Old table you no longer need? Fridge? TV? CDs, books, DVDs etc.? If you can't be bothered auctioning them, or just want to get rid of the clutter, please post them on NeedStuff. It works like this: - Register for a free account (UK only) - Confirm the account through the email we send you. - Login on the home page. If you want to give an item away: - Add a new "Offered" item and choose up to three different postal areas to make the item available in. You can choose different areas for each item, or just go with the ones you chose when you created your account. - Use a good title and description, and click the button. Hey presto! Your item is now available in those areas. - When someone sees your item and wants it, they request the item from you, and you'll receive an email. Others can still request the item from you, but it's up to you to choose who to give it to. - Set the item to "Awaiting Collection" and arrange with the other user to exchange the item. - When the item has been collected from you, set it to "Exchanged". All done! If you want to request an item: - Add a new "Wanted" item. - Other users can offer the item to you. You'll receive an email for each offer. - Choose to receive the item from someone. The other user will set it to "Awaiting Collection". - Collect the item from them. They'll set it to "Exchanged". All done! You can see all your items in the "My Items" page, and you can also search for items in any area. Because this service is totally free, I would ask that you occasionally click the adverts. I know it's annoying, but it's the only way to pay for the hosting. However, according to Google's Ts & Cs, I can't ask you to click the Google adverts, but there are others to try and it's up to you if you click anything on there. I want this to be quite successful, so if you could get others to use it too, I'd be grateful. There are 1653 different postal areas in the UK, let's get items in every one!!! :o) So, get on over to NeedStuff now and start doing your bit to help the planet! |
