Southern Electric cold-calling

CompaniesI just sent this email to Southern Electric:
On the evening of Friday 16th March 2007, an Asian gentleman claiming to be the district manager for Southern Electric came to my door telling me I was paying 8p per unit too much for my electricity. He claimed that I currently pay your company for my electricity. As far as I know I am not with Southern Electric. He claimed that I do pay a part of my monthly energy bills to you and that you own the meter in my house.

When he asked if I was Mr. Hatchett, I said no, and he simply scrubbed the name out on the paper on his clipboard. He made no attempt to get my actual name, and so I didn't think he was there on a genuine matter. If he wasn't interested in my name, how could I have an account with your company?

Can you please clarify whether this gentleman was a genuine representative of your company sent to correct an error in my billing, or if he was simply sent out by your company to try to get me to switch my energy supplier? If the latter, then you can appreciate that this method of cold-calling is annoying in the extreme, and is highly unlikely to make me switch suppliers. If *I* want to switch suppliers, *I* will make the effort.

I do not want your company calling at my door ever again. You are not wanted, and your sales methods are most unwelcome.

Thank you.
